In continuation of our letter dated the 11th.

instant addressed by ourselves and all the other Opium merchants

to His Excellency the Governor, we have the honour to bring to

your notice that according to the native papers the Tutuh of

Canton has received a motification from the Minister for Internal

Affairs that all opium smoking must cease at the end of this year and that all prepared opium shops must be closed after the 26th.

We shall be much obliged if His Excellency the

Governor will wire this report to the Secretary of State for the

Colonies and to His Majesty's Minister at Peking.
